The Butter Bean Village Market

Welcome to the Butter Bean's website.

We are very glad that you are showing an interest in our little venture and hope that this will tempt you to come by for a visit.

We are located along HWY 115 ( Old Statesville Road ) just on the outskirts of Huntersville. Our building has quite a colorful history; originally opened by Mr. Pigg as a gas station in the 1950's which closed in 1972 after an unsuccessful robbery attempt. Mr Pigg leased the old building to several entepenuers until his death (the store was once a pool hall, a bar and a grill).

The current owner (Mrs. Joni Wellman) purchased the property in the 1990's from Mr. Pigg's estate and her father operated his antique business from it until his health prevented him from continuing. Mrs Wellman and her husband decided that the location of the site would be a great place for an "Old Time General Store" and thus The Butter Bean was born.

Our Mission is to offer a variety of foods and goods from local areas. We have Tony's (famous) ice cream from Gastonia, pottery from the Bluegill Pottery (also in Gastonia), sauces and jams from the "Amish" in Hamptonville, NC, Handmade Granola bars from the Blue Ridge Mountains, Organic Whole Bean coffee and of course our best seller, "Goat Milk Soap" from
T & K farms in Maiden, NC.

We also offer an assortment of local organic and non-organic produce from farms throughout the region. Additionally, we offer "regular snacks and soft drinks" for all the adolescents that stop by after school.

We believe that by supporting our local economy, specifically our farms, we are making a small contribution to our world and environment. It is our way of "giving back" for our many blessings.

We hope that you will come by and visit, have a cup of coffee, sit a spell and take home some produce for dinner. We also hope that your experience will leave you with a peaceful feeling of nostalgia from a less hurried time.
Many Regards;
The owners, families and staff of The Butter Bean Village Market
